The main athletics stadium was a stunning piece of architecture. An elaborate criss-cross of steel was brought together to create a structure of graceful curves that belied it's enormous size. the lighting at night of yellows and reds added to the effect to create almost a giant piece of artwork.

The huge area outside the stadium used for some events like the walking races must have consisted of thousands of paving slabs. This picture was taken from, probably a kilometre along it looking on down further! it finished at the end of the row of lights where a park held events like Archery. The tower known as Ling Long tower qith the flying saucer shaped structures in it housed TV Studios.

Friends in high places

The BBC studio was on the third level chosen because it gave the best shot of the stadium in the background.

The Ling Long tower also gave a magnificent view over Beijing.
