The Dish farm

Back Home Up

I guess we were there to do some work so for all the anoracs out there here are some shots of the equipment that gets the pictures around the world.

In one corner of the dish farm, these seven dishes are pointed at a number of different Intelsat/Panamsat satellites to feed either back to the States and the West or from Africa across to the Far East. The four dishes to the right alone fed to 105 different TV stations to the East and in to Australasia.

Some of the main Transmission amplifiers and modulators.

And, looking a bit less neat, from the back.

This was one of the famous Sat-Farm barbecues before the Security men and Fire-Fighters came and confiscated it !!

Whilst they were quite civil about the whole thing, they did threaten to send in armed army guys to take it if we didn't hand it over. They duly were made to give us a receipt for it and, in fact, brought it back the day after the closing ceremony and then promptly refused to keep it when we said we didn't need it any more!
