Diana and Theresa

In 1997, one of the biggest events on the world stage took place following tragic events in Paris, the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales. The whole of the UK and half the world, it seemd, was overtaken by some kind of mass hysteria and supposedly mourned for the Princess. The following week, Mother Theresa of Calcutta also died, allegedly partly due to the shock of Diana's death.

The work I did on this was one of my busiest weeks ever. In seven days I hardly slept day or night. Starting at Northolt Airport for the return of the body for CNN, then spending most of the week at St.James' Palace for CBS, after a quick evening near Kensington Palace, CNN again,it was off to the QE2 centre (opposite Westminster Abbey) for the day of the service for CBS. The day after I was up at Althorp House for Central TV. Just when it was all over, I got the call to ask if I could go to India. I thought about it for a while, I was so tired, but then agreed to go thinking it would be the next day only to be told that the flight would be that evening!
