The intrepid Jeremy Bowen seen here outside the Kindergarten reporting the latest. This was one of the cold days, typically going down to -25 or so. On the first live transmission, the soundman went outside with no gloves thinking he'd be ok because we wouldn't be outside for long. It took him some time afterwards to be able to release the microphone pole and straighten his fingers. This picture appeared in the Worldwide TV News magazine.

As you can see better from this reverse shot, the weather was not kind. The pile of mostly white stuff was actually coal. I don't know what it was used for but it stayed there the whole time. All the buildings were very hot inside though, outside -25, inside at least +25, not too good for the system!
